Happy Valentine's Day Practice Challenge
We have a special Practice Challenge this week. Students should play a song from page 18 as a valentine treat for someone. Have them sign the Hello Kitty sheet and you will earn a prize.

February is FABULOUS BOW HOLD month. We've been working on perfect bow holds this week, playing the exercises on page 17.

This week, we will be strengthening our note reading skills. Students will be looking at new songs on page 14, including Carolina Breeze and Old MacDonald Had A Farm.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
We will be playing Up the D Scale (#32) with the bow, so it is important that everyone work on their bowholds this week.
Sam the Snowman
Each child has a Sam the Snowman performance sheet to have people sign after hearing a short performance during the Winter Holiday Break. It can be done on any day. This is a great opportunity for children to play their Recital music (see below).
Lessons for December 11-22:
This week we started "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" by Mozart. Please encourage your child to play this tune for you over the Winter Holiday Break.
We also continued to work on the music for our Beginner Strings Recital on January 19th.

Thanksgiving Challenge: Tom the Turkey (click link for a copy of the signature sheet)

November 14-16: Practice a good bow hold
This week, our bows returned from their vacation. It is important to practice a good bow hold every day. For violins and violas, here is a picture that you can use as a model:

We're getting close to the bow return date! If you successfully learn and perform the Quiz #32 on page 11, your bow will be returned.

October 25-27
This week, we learned "Mad Scientist's Laboratory" for Halloween. Click on this link to hear the accompaniment track.
October 11-13
We continued to learn the notes on the D string this week. In many of the classes, we have learned FIVE notes on our instruments (D, E, F#, G and A). With those notes, we can play a whole collection of tunes. Soon, we will be learning Hot Cross Buns and Mary Had a Little Lamb.
Keep practicing the exercises on page 6 and 7 we learned this week.

October 4-6
This week, students took the first Essential Elements Quiz. We are now on page 6 learning about notes on the D string. When you put fingers on the finger tapes, new notes are made. We have learned that 3 fingers down produces G and 2 fingers down produces F#.
